What is Artificial Superintelligence (ASI)?

Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) is the idea of a future type of AI that is way smarter than humans in every area: math, science, emotions, creativity, and more. "Artificial" means it’s made by people, and "superintelligence" means it goes far beyond our brains. ASI could help solve huge problems like disease or climate change, but it could also be risky if it acts in ways we don’t expect or can’t control. ASI doesn’t exist yet: it’s still just a concept.

Tell your child that people are working on making computer programs that can think really well. One day, those programs might become even better than people at doing everything, solving problems, coming up with ideas, and learning new things. That’s what artificial superintelligence means.

Imagine someone who knows the answer to every question, can read every book in seconds, and never forgets anything. Now imagine they could also come up with amazing new ideas no one ever thought of before. That’s what artificial superintelligence would be like, a mind that’s way beyond even the smartest people we know.
