Take the 2-Minute Check

AI words are becoming part of everyday life, and your child is likely to hear some you don't know yourself. Our AI Glossary helps you understand these terms and gives you simple ways to explore them together.

1. Let Your Child Choose a Word

Invite your child to browse the glossary and pick a word that catches their attention. It might be something they've heard at school, seen online or simply think sounds interesting.

Read the "How to Explain It to Kids" section together. Encourage them to ask questions and tell you what they think the word means.

2. Play Guess the Meaning

Choose a word from the glossary, such as prompt, chatbot or deepfake, and ask your child to guess what it means before revealing the explanation.

Have some fun with their guesses! Then read the definition together and see how close they came. You can take turns choosing words and guessing.

3. Bring the Analogies to Life

Each glossary entry includes a "How to Think About It" section, with a familiar example or analogy to help explain the idea.

Use it as the starting point for a little activity. Ask your child to draw the comparison, act it out or come up with an example of their own. This helps turn an unfamiliar AI concept into something they can picture and remember.

4. Become AI Word Detectives

Challenge your child to spot AI-related words during the week. They might hear one at school, come across it in a conversation or notice it while watching something together.

When they discover a new word, look it up in the glossary. You could even keep a family list of the words you've learnt and see how many you collect.

5. Use a Word to Start a Bigger Conversation

Some AI words provide a great opportunity to talk about how we use technology safely and sensibly.

For example, look up hallucination and then ask: "If an AI gave you an answer that sounded right, how could you check it was true?"

The glossary helps you explain the term, while your conversation helps your child think about what it means for them.

Ready to Explore an AI Word Together?

You don't need to be an AI expert to help your child understand it. Pick a word, spend a few minutes exploring it together and see where the conversation takes you.
